How School Round Registration Works

Nominate a School Coordinator

A teacher or competition coordinator acts as the main EONZ contact for the school.

Download the Registration Template

The coordinator downloads the official EONZ Excel registration template.

Register Students

The school collects the required student information and completes one spreadsheet for its participating students.

Upload Before the Deadline

The completed Excel registration file is uploaded through the EONZ website before the deadline.

Important Information for Students

Examination Format

25 multiple-choice questions

60 minutes

No negative marking

Questions must be completed in order

Students cannot return to an earlier question

Calculator and blank paper are permitted

Device and Environment

Desktop or laptop required

Phones and tablets are not permitted as an exam device

No additional screen

Stable internet connection required

Students complete the assessment at home

Online check-in begins at 6:30 pm NZDT.

Who Registers?

Students Attending a School

Students should speak with a teacher or competition coordinator at their school. Individual School Round registration is not normally accepted.

Home-Educated Students

Eligible home-educated students must contact EONZ before registering so that their status can be verified and and appropriate registration process arranged.

A Straightforward process for Schools

Schools normally manage:

collecting student information

completing the Excel registration template

submitting the spreadsheet

receiving registration and results communications

EONZ manages

examination delivery

online check-in and invigilation

technical support

marking and results

National Final Round invitations

all later completion and selection stages

Schools are not normally required to invigilate the at-home School Round or manage later stages of the EONZ pathway.

Technical Support

Students experiencing a significant technical incident must contact EONZ promptly through the published examination support channels.

Progressing to the National Final Round

Up to 100 eligible candidates, including all candidates tied at the qualification boundary, will be invited to the National Final Round.

There is no waiting list or replacement process if a qualifier declines.

Students receive their raw score, award and qualification outcome.

Public qualification information uses Candidate IDs.

School Round awards include High Distinction, Distinction, Merit and Participation.
